Turkey Club Sandwich
The perfect lunch inspired by a restaurant is the Turkey Club Sandwich! This turkey club has perfectly toasted bread, a tonne of bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo.
During my childhood, my dad would always order a turkey club sandwich when we went out to lunch. Why go out to eat for a turkey sandwich always baffled me. When I eventually gave one a try, I realised what was going on. Everything about the combo just clicks!
Now that I am a huge fan of avocado over mayo, like in my Avocado Chicken Salad, if I see one on a menu that includes avocado, I will definitely order it.
What’s A Club Sandwich
It is essentially a BLT with an extra slice of bread and extra protein. The Turkey Club clearly has turkey in this instance. You can use turkey meat from the deli, or this is a great way to use up leftover roasted turkey. Typically, it’s made with just regular white bread, but you can experiment and use whole grain or sourdough bread, or any other bread that you prefer.
One of the nice things about a turkey club sandwich is that it’s very customisable. Swap out the turkey for gammon or chicken. Add any additional vegetables you desire. Swap plain mayo for flavoured one. Give it a personal touch!
What’s In A Turkey Club
This is a classic sandwich that is very simple to make at home and can be found at almost any deli.
- White Bread
- Mayo
- Tomato
- Lettuce
- Turkey
- Bacon
Mayo, White Bread, Lettuce, Turkey, and Bacon
Three slices of bread is the traditional serving size for a turkey club, but occasionally that can get a little big. Thus, feel free to add additional toppings or even leave out the centre slice.
What Else Goes On A Club Sandwich
I’m all for personalising a classic by dressing it up. Thus, even though these might not be traditional club sandwich toppings, I believe that they pair incredibly well with bacon and turkey. Thus, truly utilise what you enjoy and have fun with it.
- Avocado
- Sliced Onion
- Mustard
- Cheese (Swiss, Cheddar, Pepper Jack)
- Pickles
Add some pickles if you enjoy them! Why not just include them in the sandwich itself? They are frequently served on the side of club sandwiches at restaurants or delis.
How To Make A Turkey Club Sandwich
- Cook your bacon first. This can be prepared in advance and kept in the refrigerator until you’rready to reheat it. If you want to make a sandwich, you can also prepare it freshly.
- Simply sear a few slices and allow them to cool for a few minutes while you put the rest of the ingredients together.
- Toast the bread slices you’re using.Over each slice of toasted bread, spread a thin layer of mayo.
- Top one slice of bread with lettuce and tomato. Place a piece of toasted bread, mayo side down, on top of that.
- Next, add a little extra lettuce and arrange the bacon and turkey slices. Place the last piece of toasted bread, mayo side down, on top.
- It is now up to you how you slice the sandwich. Although it’s usually sliced into tiny triangles, it won’t matter if you just cut it diagonally down the middle. To help the layers stay together, it is best to push a long toothpick through the sandwich.
What To Serve With Sandwiches
- Fat Free Potato Chips
- Berry Fruit Salad
- Greek Salad
- BLT Pasta Salad
Hence, the next time you’re stuck on what to make for lunch or find yourself hosting a large group of guests at your house over the weekend, remember this. Don’t complicate things! Everybody enjoys a good sandwich.
Simply chop up all of the toppings, arrange them on a board, and let everyone assemble their own sandwiches using any combination of ingredients!
